Presentation #1:
How an Idea Becomes a Book (And Why Does it Take SO Long?!)
Grades Kindergarden – 4
Why did it take four long years for an idea to become a book? Find out in this presentation with author/illustrator, Celia Krampien as we talk about her journey to becoming an illustrator, what reading taught her about writing, and the inspiration behind her first picture book, SUNNY. Students will enjoy an inside peek at how SUNNY went from an idea to a book (and all the other steps in between). This presentation includes:
- a book reading of SUNNY by Celia Krampien
- a drawing tutorial showing how to draw a character from SUNNY (students can draw along, if they’d like!)
- Q & A session
Presentation #2:
Telling Stories with Pictures
Grades Kindergarten – 4
Let’s talk about a classic storytelling duo—words and pictures! In this presentation, students will learn how words and illustrations can work together to create one fun picture book. Illustrator Celia Krampien will show students how she interprets an author’s text, how she uses details to reveal what words can’t say, and other visual “tools” artists can use to communicate with readers. This presentation includes: – a book reading of SECRET, SECRET AGENT GUY, written by Kira Bigwood, illustrated by Celia Krampien
- a homemade spy-gear drawing tutorial (students can draw along or create their own!)
- Q & A session
