Virtual Presentation/Workshop Information:

Folktales and Furry Tails (K – Grade 3) Marty Chan combines storytelling, technical magic, and audience participation to bring Chinese folktales to life. He’ll share the legend of the first rainbow and how it was created, inviting the online students to become the characters in the story. He’ll also reveal the real-life cats who inspired his picture book, True Story, and share the creative process with some behind-the-scenes images of the illustrations in progress.

Edge of Your Seat (Grades 4 – 8) Marty shares the secrets to writing conflict and tension in stories. Using his novels Final Cut, Haunted Hospital, and Keepers of the Vault as examples, he reveals how to keep readers on the edge of their seats from the first page to the last page. He highlights key concepts of how descriptive writing can create a mood or atmosphere and the importance of raising the stakes for the protagonist. This virtual session is full of tech surprises that will engage even the most reluctant learner.
