To honour the 40th anniversary of the very first Book Week tour, the CCBC asked veteran illustrator Ian Wallace to create this year’s Book Week poster image.
Ian Wallace was part of the original 11 authors and illustrators that set out on the first Book Week tour in 1977. Ian’s striking poster illustration perfectly conveys our theme Read Across Canada. The bald eagle on the left represents the West Coast of Canada, the puffin on the right represents the East Coast and the snowy owl in the middle represents the territories to the north.
This year the CCBC will be producing poster and bookmarks that schools and libraries can purchase to further enhance their Book Week celebrations. The Book Week materials will help teachers and librarians celebrate great Canadian children’s books during TD Canadian Children’s Book Week and all year long!

Teachers and librarians can order bookmarks for the students in their classroom or library and share the magic of books and reading during TD Canadian Children’s Book Week! The bookmarks are sold in sets of 30 and feature artwork by Canadian illustrator Ian Wallace.

Our free online theme guide features the newest books by the 27 touring authors and illustrators and introduce readers to the three touring storytellers. In celebration of Canada’s 150th birthday, the online guide contains a listing of 150 books that pay tribute to the different regions of Canada. Young readers are invited on a literary journey across the country through books written by some of Canada’s most talented creators.
